the path of heart

I was rereading some of my work from the period of the last recession, a desperate time for the country. The surface of what we call reality, How things are, falls away in such times. Even what we believe is really happening, beyond what we are told, the assumptions that we hold and share with those close, fall away. Those are times of revolution. The state moves in very quickly to control the people, and they did. But the revolution is within self and that cannot be controlled..
If all that you believe in, money, status, possessions, rights, shuffle off, your sense of self develops separate from the group. You are looking in at the desperation enveloping your country. We’ve been seeing this phenomenon for the past year of so; people talk about stocking up on provisions, loading up on canned goods, buying the gun, getting out of the cities, investing in gold, the only trustworthy asset. During such times, one is truly aware and afraid.
The world we have created is not real; we have to work very hard to maintain its edifice. Norman Mailer once conjectured that the first humans lived in a state of dread. I don’t believe that. Those people were free. We are the ones living in fear because we are no longer real, unable to take care of ourselves outside the system we’ve created. And here in the U.S. we are recreating the madness of ancient times. You see the elites at their parties, the Met Gala, the Hollywood Awards shows with its parties, its couture. These people allow themselves to be photographed with servants wearing masks! This is what America aspires to, we are told. The incident of Will Smith stepping on stage to smack Chris Rock and then the incident is repeated with Dave Chappelle is an indication that those parties are coming to an end. We can no longer maintain the façade. Get Real! None of it means anything, truly. The planners behind the scene, the multinational architects, operate on such an egotistical level. America prospers by making war, killing people. Does that make sense?
I don’t know about love, but I know about the path of heart. If your path has no heart, it will destroy you.
