the great upheaval

Oh my America, my new found land, writes the poet John Donne in the poem, “To His Mistress Going To Bed.” This sixteenth century poem reflects the thoughts and perceptions of the people on their discovery of this great virgin land mass across the ocean. It was a wonder and a great blessing. The courageous determined to cross the great waters and establish a home away from the corrupt, iniquitous world of aristocratic dictatorship.
These people suffered greatly when they first settled in America and set about to establish some method of rules and laws to protect the people and nurture stability. One thinks of the first ships bringing the products of sixteenth century to support life in the new land laden with all manner of accommodation. Assuredly, the sixteenth and seventeenth century was the great upheaval that changed the world.
Many of those who came had been oppressed because of their beliefs. They would not allow that to occur in their hard-won land. Times of great upheaval bring forth greatness in the people. Think of Paul Revere in the dead of night on horseback warning the people that the British were coming bringing their autocratic rule to subjugate them once again. In times of threat, America has produced outstanding men who took action. At great risk they fought to establish freedom from Europe’s tyrannous establishment. People like George Washington. Abraham Lincoln, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson.
It is wrong to judge these people by modern standards. Thomas Jefferson understood that it was wrong to enslave Africans. It was a problem he left for others to resolve. He did not believe that the two races could establish common ground and live peaceably on the same ground. Should they be returned to Africa? Was that feasible?
The destruction of the symbols of our leadership, removing statues, denying our past and its heroes their true worth, accomplishments, is destroying America. We are undergoing a great upheaval presently. Our leadership is beyond corrupt; it is evil. It works to pit us one against the other. What took years to accommodate equity for all Americans is being dismantled. A mild flu, Covid, with a recovery rate of 99.95% was used to deny the people the needed treatment to cure it and exacted the most cruel and deadly requirement, the vaccine, knowing its poisonous elements; why else indemnify the pharmaceutical industry from lawsuits? It devastated the people’s will. Those in power encouraged lawlessness, violence and mayhem in the cities and constantly denigrated the people by referring to them by their skin color in a pejorative way. They have sought to portray the majority Caucasian people as supremacists.
Children are indoctrinated into sex way beyond their capacity to comprehend or absorb it in any meaningful way. They are being groomed for the adult appetite. Every culture has established a rite of passage to give meaning to a child’s passage into adulthood, the Jewish bar, bat mitzvah, Confucian Ji Li, Guan Li, the Catholic Confirmation, the Apache Sunrise Ceremony, etc. These rites place the sexual awakening in the proper context of what this next stage of their lives entails with its responsibilities and pleasures. Parents shocked by the turn this country is taking were labeled domestic terrorists by the attorney general and the FBI was enlisted to hunt them down.
Presently, America is beginning to awaken from this nightmare. Sadly, it’s been brought about by the death we see in the media, daily, of young athletes succumbing to death in front of our very eyes. Why wasn’t the madness stopped? Why didn’t the medical profession stop the lies, expose the vax? They knew. We saw unfolding the destruction of our valued small businesses and fools who sought to rule the world were given stage to expound their vile fantasies.
The IChing in its profound wisdom asserts that martyrdom will not correct the situation. Better wait for the correct moment to speak up. To throw oneself in the funeral pyre by speaking up when one will not be heard, and thus ruining one’s career in the process, shutting the door forever of having a voice to influence the outcome. Think of Colin Powell’s fateful moment at the UN, The enduring image from that moment is Powell holding up a tiny vial of white powder, which stood for what was supposed to be Saddam’s anthrax, and, mortgaging his esteemed reputation and his credibility for all time. He spoke up too early without understanding the implications of his speech and he was destroyed for it.
The present awakening is proper. We have thoroughly absorbed the meaning of what has befallen us. And now we speak up, we act. It is our time of awakening, our great upheaval.
