overton window

Presentation is all; that’s how the matrix works. I should make clear that I don’t see matrix as something created by wicked overlords who control all for their benefits. We are undoubtedly doing it to ourselves. A person is always presenting herself but never quite getting there, that is, beyond the presentation. The real self, or rather the total self is never seen; it’s just not allowed. There’s a system in place that controls your very being. EVERYTHING . . . the diseases you will get, your sexual proclivities, your career preferences, your death. You thought it was god? God is also a creation of the matrix.
In order to gain control over the matrix, one has to die a number of deaths, make a complete break from the world of human beings; one becomes dead to the world. Unfortunately there is no Morpheus waiting on the Nebuchadnezzar to come pick you up when you’ve had enough. You took the red pill and you see things which you can’t talk to others about because it is definitely not part of the presentation script, not part of the matrix. Everyone you deal with is in the dark, captured. How to establish relationships with slaves, yes, they are slaves, poses ethical questions. You have no choice but to make a presentation that you know will be palatable to your interlocutor. As Philip K. Dick states, Reality is that which when when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.
Do you remember in the Matrix how Neo sees a black cat walk by, twice, and the crew corrects him when he says it’s a déjà vu experience. No, it’s a glitch in the matrix program – bad coding. There are many signs in our own system that expose such glitches. You’ve heard the term the Overton window? Wikipedia explains it thusly, It is the range of policies politically acceptable to the mainstream population at a given time. It is also known as the window of discourse. The term is named after Joseph P Overton. The Overton window is what one allows, not only in politics, but across the board. It’s how you end up with ulcers at 35 because you denied your true self to such a degree that your body reacted painfully. The Overton window doesn’t explain anything it just identifies patterns, a glitch. The Overton window apparently just fell from the sky. People want it this way because it’s safer less fearful to not think and act on one’s own, not part of presentation rules.
